So is this right? Get no message & it means there is a chance of a gain?

i have been training magery as well..
starting with like 66.5 magery and 94 int
i got to 100 int by the time i got to 67.2 magery.. and that have been a long time
i used skilltest to make sure my spell was hard enough indeed..
i think its a way too many int gain per magery gain considering my magery is low and my int was already high

i can train for an hour and not even gain .1

I agree that the stat gains are FAR out of proportion to the skill gains. I gained 54 int in 4 hours training anatomy. During that same time, I gained just under 10 full points in anatomy.

The most stats anyone can get through training is 100, and the most skill is 100, so it would seam to me that a good balance would be 1% skill gain for 1% stat gain (1:1). That's not how it is. Currently it's 1% skill gain to 5% stat gain (1:5). I'd like to see the speed for stat gains reduced by half the distance to skill gains, and vice versa for skills. It would give us a slightly faster skill gain (not much) and a slightly slower stat gain, and put us where we should be at 1:1.

Ya it always used to be that Stats gained slower than skills, which makes perfect sense.

I'm sure Bob will fix it soon enough.

Ya know, i was thinking about the gains. Say the average gain for magery above 65 is .1%/hour. That means it will take approx 350 hours to GM magery. That's 350 hours of JUST training magery. If you're like me, and work full time and are also a full time father, I have about 10 hours a week average to spend on UO. That's 35 weeks, or 10 months of PURE MAGERY TRAINING from 65% to GM. Not to mention how ever long it takes to get TO 65%. So, to get a good powerful mage with all skills(resist, magery, anatomy, etc..) it would probably take 5 years or so. I dont' want to play a game for 5 years to get somewhere in it!!!!!!!! I know this shard is about the experience getting there, not getting there fast. BUT DAAAAANG! I would like to be able to do pvm in less than a month! Not including poly vs ogres, but at least be able to defeat basic monsters. I mean, seriously, one shouldn'thave to dedicate a rediculous amount of time to a game/shard that may simply go POOF one day due to low/decreasing player base. It seems to me, a lot of the players here are only here because they are vets with too much time invested in their char to simply leave.

On a personal note, the only thing I have been doing since joining is mining/tinking to make money. I am currently at mid 40% tink and mining and have 16K in the bank. That's good, but with the time I spend on the shard, it would be nice to get a bit more out of it. I'm saving up gold so I can get my mage/warrior skills better, but it seems to me I might not even be able to get that far. Doing more math here, I joined about a month ago I'd say, maybe more. I need a house (to store ingots and crafted items and stuff) so there's 57k i need to invest. 20k a month (i'm making 2k a day now due to items i can craft) means another month or so before I can get a house. Then I need to save for regs to up my magery, which can cost 100's of thousands to get magery to a decent pvm level. Even if i take my archery skill and work on it, we are talking months before I can even consider seriously doing PvM. PvP is pretty much out of the question for me unless I want to dedicate my entire life to this game. I am a father and a cable technician, I don't have the ability to spend my life gaming like I used to. I love UO and want to continue to play on this shard, but if the gains continue at the rate they are, I may just consider leaving.

PLEASE consider raising the gains to a more reasonable level for people like me who can't dedicate their lives to macroing. I would like to enjoy the game, not macro for months before I can do sh*t.

Many of us have done just that. Now, after 4 or 5 years, we find that all the work we put in was for nothing, because the powers that be nerffed our characters back to a level they were at 3 years ago. Not only did we loose the time, but we are virtually guaranteed that no matter how much more time we put in, we will never be where we were.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Many of us have too much time invested to just walk away.....Who knows, in 5 years (when I'm finally ok with having a mediocre character) I'll get the enjoyment of being nerfed to the level of a mongbat.

One thing that keeps me here is the hope that driving players away is part of a larger plan for obsidian. I MUST think that alienating this many players would be deliberate, because otherwise it's just piss poor-planing. Imagine this: The Devs turn everyone's main character into mush, and the ones that stick around will someday reap the rewards without the immature short-attention-span folks causing trouble. The end result would be a more mature and enjoyable shard for everyone......this is what I desperately hope is happening anyway....

exactly. and to add ya know, skill and stat gain wouldn't be too much of a problem, if there was actually a COMMUNITY to play with! being a new player, I don't really know anybody. That makes it hard to find one of the four players that's on, and hang out chat whatever. Not to mention the difference in skill between me and them is so great, there isn't too much we could do together other than socialize. So the social aspect of the game is pretty much non-existent for me(please remind me this is an MMO, not just a game I'm playing on a remote server), which leaves only gameplay remaining. Now please don't call me one of those ADHD players(not saying you did) because I am complaining about the slow gains, but hear me out about the REALITY of the gains. Slow gains + player base = enjoyable experience with other people going out and wiping out dungeons together (what a great time I had doing that on my last shard!). Slow gains + no one to play with = boredom working on skill gain. Fast gains + no one to play with = somewhat enjoyable experience PvM in dungeons that don't have 1337 dragons. Fast gains + player base = too many stupid PKers. I think you just need to find that sweet spot in gains and caps; taking into consideration the number of active players. Personally, I am not a fan of skill caps, but I will deal with them starting new(i would be pissed if my mage got dowgraded because someone changed the race codes and the race I had originally chosen was now meant to be a warrior, etc). I am not a fan of multiple charactors to do multiple tasks(even more time wasted building basic skills on different chars to have a tamer, a builder, a warrior, a mage, etc...) I am a fan of the UberChar that can do everything with enough time dedicated to them.
I am willing to put all of this aside to play on a decent shard.
I see potential here.
I like the staff.
I like the current player base.
I like the overall atmosphere.
I just feel I am moving from the big city to a small hick town with no Wal-Mart.

I think this is relevant, will speak to the dev team so they can focus on calculating just how long these gains take!

Thank you.

Oh yeah, i can't find anywhere that says what the skill/stat caps are.
I logged on today, and all my skills decreased by .1%
Does this mean i went over the cap last time i was logged on and it reduced them all to balance it? I'm only at 709.9/678.4 real.

a fff is a Forget Full Fish i think after u hit 75 fishing u start fishing them. There is one for every skill some more rare than others. Each fish drops like 10 skill.

Not sure about why its low its always been like that. But you get vet points the longer you stay here.

This added to the fact that to gain you need to keep casting harder and harder spells which takes a lot more regs which you either have to hunt for or hunt for the money which takes up even more time.
