OK i know this has been brought up many times but it always seems to get dismissed ad i think this is very important. As an example on my sons char he took 50 resist, he lost .1 for the overcap and has been fighting a lot of casters and is still at 49.9. I have been playing around with Dolek as well and have not gained even .1 either. You get the message that you resisted a lot more now but it still does not gain.

Well I started my warrior 6 years ago at 50.0 resist and I've gained about...ohhh idk...maybe 1.6 resist in 6 years? I've paged a TON of times in the past and I guess they just get deleted.

Well if there is another way gaining resist other than having spells cast at you and you resisting them then that's pretty stupid. But i can't see how it works fie if EVERYONE notices a problem.

Back when I was playing before, I noticed this problem a couple years ago. I have been able to get my characters up to 90+ resist but they dont' gain anymore. Maybe it only gains from more powerful spells when you are that high, who knows. I do know that for months I was unable to get any gains from my chars once they got to a certain point.

If it was just really hard to gain at 90 that would be one thing but i started Dolek at 50 like 5 years ago and he is only like 62 or something. But just lately i have not gained at all not even .1 that is rediculous.

I agree that it's not working right now, even though bob thinks it is. I think he should try making a char at 50 resist and try gaining then he'd see what's up.

Well it would seem then that you are the only one gaining. How long ago was that anyway?

Well then i'll tell you right now that some chars are bugged or something because i have tried training resist on both dolek and my pvm mage, and not 1 gain im not even kidding. Either way it gains way too slow anyway. If it takes 10 hours to gain 2.2. I very rarely get even 2 hours to play this game nevermind 10.

Most of the time when i've been asked about resist, it's by people trying to macro it up through various methods. And you all know how I feel about macroing of any form.

Resist is setup to be a difficulty based skill. Meaning if you're near gm, you won't gain from those little fireballs and harm spells. The only thing on it that has changed since 2006 are the following additions(you can find them in changelog at various times):

1. t4a upgrade made resist gain passively again (outside of the scripted method), this increased gains
2. Resist scripted method was altered to account for difficulty.
3. Resist gains were doubled.

That being said, I did some minor tweaks to the system to speed up the process on the lower ends, and i've went ahead and added something obsidian's never had, resist gains on failure. This won't affect high end as much, but it should give a bonus to gain rate, decreasing with level.

I have lowered the passive resist gain rate to compensate a little for this, but that won't be noticed by most.
