I can understand why it takes so long to make a set of armor, but come on.. it takes over 20x longer to make a set of armor then it did back then, it's just boring sitting there waiting for it to finish.

time to make is based off of the work of the item, which is determined by it's resources.
You produce more work/tick as you go up in level.
So if you want armor made faster, go up in skill or make less complex armor.
OR if you want it changed, you will still have to spend the same time crafting to gm, so you'll use more materials since it's less time for each one being made.
OR we can lower the ingot requirement for armor (which i'm not keen to do for balance reasons)
In laymens terms:
It takes 5x longer to make an armor piece (25 iron) than a dagger (5 iron). So you still spend the same time/work gain per unit of resource.
Welcome to either option.

I think it is fine the way it is. I have no idea about gains in the skill as I have been GM a long time now... As for making armor...it is fine as is.
