Yes, well that is practically upredictable, you can't ban all the words. But just to be on the safe side some of them are

iIf you say something bad about someone black, and you werent even referring to the color of their skin you still concidered being "racist", yet if a black person calls you a crack or says " i dont like white people" they arent really referred to being racist..

yes, well that's the danger of political corectness. It leads to too much positibe discrimination (which, in my opinion, is no different and no less offencing than the regular discrimination). But you chose the lesser evil. It hurts you less if a black person calls you a cracker - your ancestors haven't been wiped out.

The whole point that some of you seem to be missing is that IT IS COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT WHETHER YOU DEEM THIS OFFENSIVE OR NOT. This has NOTHING to do with being 'politically correct'. I'm certainly not that kind of person.

The point is that rmx found it offensive, and there is no reason why racist comments of this nature should be tolerated ingame any more than they are in real-life.

Just because you are sat behind a computer screen doesnt make it any less ignorant to insult somebodys race.

At the end of the day, there are plenty of ways to argue with or insult a person without stooping as low as racism.

If any of you disagree with the Obsidian rule I applied here (you know, the rules.txt in the game directory as decreed by the admin) then I suggest you grow up and take it up with Broadband. Lestat only got a relaxed chat and 1h jail, anyway.

PS. And yes, the rule refers to not just race but ethnicity and religious beliefs. Don't try and pick holes in a rule that is only designed to protect people from pointless attacks. Can't we just be nice to each other or something? Yeah, try that...

yup. of course rmx is right. and of course lestat must be punished. i thought that was kinda accepted and agreed to by all of the speakers in this thread. Then the discussion moved to generalities, i tryed to explain why it is better to have some words censored than no censorship at all, etcaetera.

Anyway, I think we all agree that this doesn't need to be discussed, sorry if I seemed a little irate but at the end of the day this is an open and shut case of the rules being applied in a very simple manner - so I don't feel that my every action has to become a running debate and/or a deep discussion.

The matter has been dealt with and both parties have reached a mutual understanding of what is acceptable.

Why would players have to hide their nationality to prevent having their nationality side insulted? Lestat is a weakling and I pity him in every manner possible. As for name calling, its only LOGICAL what people consider racial slurs or not. People with common sence and brain will refer to life education rather than try to find breaches or answers in the rules. If I come up to Ares, I wont say "Hey Jew!" even in a nice manner and even if I mean no harm because Ares is a f****** human being before being a Jew. In a good political discussion I had in Off Topic with my friend Duck and the respectable Van Impe I said that I myself am guilty of being racist but I do not show it nor do I take my game decisions based on this side of my personality. It is something I don't cowardly spill out on a computer game. People in the games I play have no clue of who I am racist towards and I am clearly intended on keeping it so. Little kids and cowards should learn a lesson from this.
