oh god yes cemetary gates what a high that was when i learned to play that riff. dimebag was a beast.

kinetic you should look a bit deeper into kiss' music, i agree theres not a lot of technically difficult riffs there, and well i think they really meant to be a glam band since thats what was in at the time, but if you check out some of the music you will find some really creative stuff going on there. ace was one hell of a guitarist. he played sloppy as f*** and didnt have all that much knowledge of the technical side at all. but he had one hell of a style he was definately one of those that people say there will never be another like him. also check out "deuce" one hell of a song to play live and really fun if you look at poisons "nothing but a good time" its the exact same riff lol. also the later guitarists like vinnie vincent, mark st john and bruce kulick were all gods they could hang with anybody as far as technical prowess yet the only one that is ever remembered is the one with his own style ace. makes ya wonder which is harder playing fast or playing uniquely.

Some good suggestions on bands. Here's a brief lists of some bands I listen to, and a starter song for each band (some will be repeated from earlier posts):

Black Sabbath: Paranoid
AC/DC: Highway to Hell
Anthrax: Antisocial
Blind Guardian: When Sorrow Sang
Danzig: Mother (thanks for telling me about Danzig Drizzt :P )
Guns N' Roses: Welcome to the Jungle
Hammerfall: Dreamland
Iced Earth: Wolf
Demons & Wizards: Fiddler on the Green
Iron Maiden: Infinite Dreams
Lynyrd Skynyrd: Sweet Home Alabama
Machine Head: Five
Manowar: Brothers of Metal
Megadeth: Trust
Metallica: Creeping Death
Motley Crue: Dr. Feelgood
Pantera: Cowboys From Hell
Queens Ryche: Operation Mindcrime
Slayer: Bloodline
Soil: The One
Skid Row: Slave To The Grind
The Breeding: Nailed to The Cross
Osyris: Taken By Force
Twisted Sister: I Wanna Rock

Hope that helps.

you could try lake of tears, theater of tragedy, anathema, haggard if you want some gothic.

you can't go wrong with the classics (were wrote in the other posts).

you could also try bands like radiohead, muse, air, nine inch nails, maybe some hardcore ones like static x, slipknot, soulfly too.

i guess you already know rammstein, they're pretty cool too.

or maybe some death, black, doom and whatever. bands like dimmu borgir, at the gates, burzum, gates of ishtar etc
