The past few months haven't been good to Obsidian's website. First my local webserver got hit with a virus taking down the website and deleting most backups. Deciding I didn't want to deal with that happening again I moved the website to a hosting company where I figured I wouldn't have to worry about any more problems. Unfortunately it wasn't that simple.

I moved the site to PHPwebhosting who I believed were reliable and stable mainly because i've used them before. Things went well for the first few weeks and then suddenly the entire site went down with a 403 error. Sending them an email they never responded and it took 2 more until I got any sort of response from them. They claimed somehow I lost permissions on the site and restored them and once again the site was up. 2 Days of downtime but their apologies madeup for it.

The following day I see that the SAME EXACT thing had happened. I sent them another email and actually got a quick response and was informed that they blocked my entire website because "It was overloading and crashing their servers." Last i checked our website consists of nothing more then a few dozen webpages and a forum that isn't too heavily used. They said they would find out who disabled the site and inform me what I need to do to fix it. That was Friday and today is Monday and I still had no response from them.

Finally sick and tired of this crap I decided to move everything BACK to my control. So right now the domain is being updated to point back to my webservers and everyone should be back up and running in the next 24 hours or so.

The moral of the story here is NEVER to use phpwebhosting.com and that giving up control of your website to a web hosting company puts you at their control if they decide to take down your site.

I would have got this up sooner, but I didn't have the time to migrate everything back until today.

Please spread the word and let everyone know Obsidian is back online. Thanks!

If this makes any of you feel better here is the final email i sent them today:

I guess I'm going to be leaving you guys for a new web provider. You have had my site down for nearly a week without any sort of reason besides that my site is "crashing your server". I apologize if your server cannot handle simple webpages and a low traffic forum but you might want to look into that less you want to lose more customers.

I will be cancelling all my accounts with you this week.

There's no way we would quit on Obs. The game just rocks too much. I even got a life while Obs was down . Now I have special Obs time put into my weekly planner. A truly great game - thanks

I lead a very busy life as well I don't find much time to even play on obsidian. You guys(staff) invest so much time in this site. I hope that you guys have no more major trouble with obsidian and thank you for making this a great game to be a part of.
