I think donators should re-open with new features like:

basic feature: u can access donator's gate

other featuers:

lets say u donate 10 dollas u can get 10k (im sure lots of lazy ppl will donate money to get game-money aaaand that wud be cool cuz then u gonna have lots of reel money )

also if u donate other amounts u can get dunno newbied unique items, rides ecc ecc...

wot u guys think?

For me, I think if we ended up giving 'loot for cash' then Obsidian would end up being no different from every other free MMO with a cash shop.

All it does is line the pockets of the developers and upset alot of the players, and Broadband has never been in this for the money so he probably wouldn't like the idea.

From a player perspective, all it does is end up alienating those who cannot afford (or do not want) to pay to obtain the extra items / loot etc.

THAT SAID however, 'donators status' with access to certain game features like the donator's moongate area always worked well in the past, so I'm sure that may return in some form if BB wants to. I just don't think we will get to the stage where we are giving out unique / newbified items etc for cash.

Hint: In order to sell in-game 'cash' for real world money (e.g. $10 for 100k) you actually need to become a licensed bank, for example Project Entropia. This is the legal standpoint because you are effectively creating an exchange rate. However this would create a real cash economy in the game that is not what Obsidian is about. It would also involve completely rewriting the game and wiping everyone's characters.

Id be for it if we could pay for staff to do what another staff may not have the time to do. Put patches in or w/e they could while another staff was away or didnt have the time to do. But that may make things worse to many cooks in the kitchen type thing idk just a thought.

To be fair, I personally feel if donation is brought back (*optionally*) it would be nice if a subscription option was available i.e. $1-$5/month. Heck I'd happily donate $1/month to the shard and I'm staff!

This money could obviously go towards upkeep costs, reward staff for development time etc.

However, again I'd like to stress that BB and all the other Obsidian staff team have never done any of their work for money; after all it was BB's decision to remove the donation option in the first place. I dread to think what this shard has cost BB over the years! Let alone all the man hours contributed by all the great staff we've been blessed with...

good idea, and a lot of people would do it, however, it's not legal in the US. Obsidian is on the fringes of legality to begin with...if recurring revenue is involved BB could be opening himself up to a crapload of trouble

I say no to the Donations thing to staff. I wouldent mind donating but i wouldent want my donations going to staff since most of them are in-active, id rather have it going towards servers computers aka to BB. Not to any staff

Well personally I wouldn't object to a bit of money going to Bob e.t.c. for all the man hours of work he's put in. But I do see your point - I certainly would not accept any money myself.

I do get the point about the legality of recurring revenues, but I think a donation for maintenance of the Obsidian website is very different from a required subscription service.

Anyway, I think this thread is more for general conversation I severely doubt any of that would ever happen.

I think he should just get unbanned. People have done far worse than what he has done.
