Killing a mercenary causes one to gain a kill. Mercenaries drop magical items in bags. One cannot hire a mercenary.

Well you shouldn't gain a kill i don't think but you always did lose karma. Of course they should have loot if you kill them. I don't think you could ever hire them on this shard, not since i have been playing anyway.
