Ok, so i figured some of you will get a laugh out of this.
Turns out we're not the only game to get angry at people who idle to gain in-game advantages(even if they are minimal advantages).

http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=2787

Keep in mind they are talking about hats, flair, stuff that has no in-game affect. Kills have an actual in-game affect. So yeah.
Discuss.

"Over the next few days we'll be removing all TF2 items that were earned using external idling applications."

nothing to do with kills. this is a macroing problem using 3rd party apps.
which isn't debated

team valve doesn't agree with GM bob. It has nothing to do with sitting around doing nothing, it has to do with the 3rd party apps.

and I'm sure, they don't have ridiculously long delays on any of there system, which requires you to stay on for hours on end, to get rid of a flag, that can be gained and usually is gained by bug that needs to be fixed. (sorry for the run on sentence)

I can add on.... but anyway...nice try bob

i have used valve since it first came out, and i have to agree with Sub
valve is not agreeing with you, sorry to say that Bob.....and like Sub
mentioned, it is not so much the "AFKing" but the 3rd party systems
that are involved that Valve seems to target (i.e. macros or simply hardware
that allows the player to play better (cheats)).

nice attempt tho Bob

Ya know i guess reading the article was a little much to expect from you all, so let me try to sum it up.
Over the next few days we'll be removing all TF2 items that were earned using external idling applications.
Idling applications. Idling means siting there doing nothing. Meaning 3rd party programs that all they do is let you sit on a server and do NOTHING so that your playtime goes up. This has nothing to do with any hardware/software that lets the player play better. It has to do with the pretty much equivalent of something hitting a key every 4 minutes.

These hats are awarded literally at random over time periods, while you're logged in. (They don't even check for duplicates, so yeah, to get a certain hat you will have to log in for hours on end, to gain a stupid "flag" that tells you you have this hat).
They give no bonus, they just look "cool".

So yeah, it actually is the same thing. :)
The only difference is obsidian doesn't kick you off after 10 minutes if you aren't doing anything, so people don't need a program to make sure they're still online doing nothing.

no bob still a fail.
because they don't have bugs that make the time they need to play increase by hours.

Would these programs on a server with 1 or 2 idling people and w/ no one else on that there bothering w/ there idling time + a bug that is the main cause of people having to wait, really bother them?, if yes. wouldn't the fix that bug? lol?

the problem there, it's a FPS am I correct? of course someone moving back and forth every 4 seconds and them not shooting anyone or anything, is gonna be a problem...
whats the effect of someone sitting in the woods or house have on other players in obsidian?

and the blue flag has benefits on obsidian, and is a important mechanic in gameplay. this hat isn't important by anystandard yet creating gameplay problems for others.
anyone see a difference?

mmmm... Ok so I read the article, and where exactly does it mention that people have to play 20 hours to decay a kill? This is a complete fallacy.

um still a no...Valve (or even the game) does not kick you after 10 minutes...it wont even
kick you off after a whole day (might wanna play the game if you have not). i have
played both TF2 and CSS since both of them came out, and the only reason you would
be kicked out of the server (not the game) is that a "admin" (or whatever they call them
again) will kick you because he/she sees that you being on the spectating list is either

1. lagging the sever because of your presence
2. feels that your simply spectating and annoying others/walling
3. needs to make room for others to play in

thus, there is no record in my books of playing both games, Valve (or the game itself) does
not kick a person playing more than 10 minutes if they are not doing anything (this is referred
to as "spectating" not being "AFK"...so once again, your still basing Obsidian and Valve in the
wrong sense and trying to imply something that is not 100% correct

the timer shouldn't be lowered, but also ppl that like to kill need to realize
that once you "decide" to go red then you're going to stay that way

personally i think the timer is good this way, it will show which ppl "love"
to go red and those that just do it for the fun of it

i say it stands as is (and yes i have tested the system before)

and how do i ask you tested it?.. you didnt? oh... ok...

]I didn't choose to go red... atleast 7 of my kills were due to bug ALONE
and the rest was me being mad at the bug so i went on a killing spree..

If the timer stays this high, atleast make it a way reds can redeem them selves
like slaying 3 dragons decays 1 kill or
100 monsters a kill or something! it's ridiculous specially for a bugged system...

New kill system is in place, so it should be pretty darn impossible toget a kill "on accident" now.
Guild wars work, chaos/order work, etc.
Which seems to be around 90% of the complaints.

If you go red now, it's pretty intentional.
