Forums are for posts.
Signatures are nice, but they should never eclipse the post.

That being said, if someone posts long posts, a little larger signature is not going to be noticed as much.

However if someone's signature is 10 times the size of their post, that's rediculous.

If your signature distorts the forum layout, that should be a hint.

As for flash/animated gifs/etc....
i look at that as common courtesy. Broadband's free to get mad at anyone for anything, because it's his forums. But I won't step in unless you're either being purposefully annoying/offensive, or it's just way too over the top and it's missing the point of signatures.


TL:DR = Keep them within reason, If it's 2x the max height of your avatar pic, that's not within reason. If it's wider than 640, it's not within reason.
