Did I miss something?
Yes you did:

Proficiency:
--------------------
You can wear any armor, however if you are not proficient in the armor then you will take stamina penalties during most actions.
You cannot wield weapons you are not proficient in.
Thanks Sol.
I knew there had to be something, I just didn't expect it to be that obvious.

Humans rule. 8) Heh heh. :P

Seriously though, aren't humans supposed to be the best in the long long looooong run? I thought I read that in another post somewhere. Just curious... :)
That wasn't the intention but I'm pretty sure that is what ended up happening. Human warriors can use both melee weapons and bows which is a definate advantage. With vet bonuses they can GM almost as many skills as a race char, all they are missing is the race stone that right now doesn't work anyway.

So basically instead of everyone making a race char like "someone" thought now everyone who really wants a great warrior will make a human....This place is looking less appealing everyday.

You speak the word human like it's a curseword or something. Having a reason to pick a human character is not a bad thing.

The whole point of the change is so that everyone ISN'T a race character, and likewise everyone ISN't a human. Those who feel the extra skillpoints and other racial abilities are worth no archery, and indeed there are many warriors who don't use archery, and are very successful, will go race. And those who feel they require archery and melee weapons on the same character will go human.

The fact that i've seen quite a few racial characters who decided to go warrior so far reinforces the fact that some people feel that it's a worthwhile trade, even without their race stones working yet.

So yes, not everyone will want to give up their bow for their extra skillpoints. But just because you don't want to doesn't mean that its automatically a bad option. It just means you have a playstyle that is more fit for a human.

But then again, how do we make an educated choice on whether to drop the race and go human if the stones aren't fixed yet. What if someone went human only to find out that they would have stayed a race with the way the stone is made.
Like in my situation I will be making Dracula into a human and xfering the parry to maximus so he may pvm better. I keep bow and sword and will stick more to two handed weps. No big deal. BUT! If I did this and the vamp stone was something I really liked, how would I live with myself after becoming a mere mortal. Same thing for maximus.....losing meditation and gm poisoning by going human would suck if the stone turned out to be something I liked. Is a sticky situation for sure sir!

As a side note. Has vetpoints been straightened out? Are they more definative? For example, at 52 ingame years, what is the skillcap in comparison from the starting skills? And is this aspect staying or being removed as well?

Just curious.
Thanks!

Aleksander, the best advice i can give to you is that once races are released, humans will be given a chance to transfer into a race character.
As will other races be given an option to switch to a different race.
So if you absolutely cannot wait, make your choice now and you can switch over later. The only diff is we won't do skill transfers for the human to race or race to race conversions.

This really can't be helped, as the system players wanted requires races to be completely redone. And with how intricate the new races are going to be, that takes time.

Chips, it says in the manual that the only real difference in armor for human mages and the mage class is what armor they are profficient in.

And remember, wearing armor you are NOT proficient in invokes stamina penalties. Chug those refresh pots! :)

ive always wanted to make a elf or something of my character Ambient, then i guess he'd go smith class if so.. but that means (if i remember reading right) i gotta transfer tinkering to another char :// question is if its worth it?

All i can say is OUCH - Thats all of my chars knackered to a degree.

I can see why you have done what you have (to make everyone evens) to be fair but wouldnt it just have been easier to have just a human character selectable? - That way everyone is even, and perhaps the game will be more skillbased (i.e the player thats using them) then as opposed to just the older players having to give up all of their characters?

I maybe would probably understand a little better if there was a massive influx of players coming and everyone was complaining that an 8x Gm Vamp warrior was kicking everyones arse - but there isnt.

What i'm trying to say is that why has all this been done when the shard has a minimum playerbase?

I hope you take the above as contructive and not me being arsey

I think it woulda been easier if it was a low player base because staff are probably doin some of this by hand lol and a 8xgm vamp warrior kicking the few ppl on the shard's ass really isn't a difference between him kicking the lot of ppls asses over powered is over powered at any stage

Hmmm, I dont kick ass to be fair i just hunt every now and again.

What i was trying to say was if you wanted an easy way to balance the shard, make it so you can only make a human character with no restrictions

It was done with a minimum playerbase to give the veterans time to adjust and get their complaining out and realize the system isn't that bad, before the new guys get here.

And barney, essentially, you could look at it that way.

You can pick a human char, 680 skill with no restrictions
OR
you can go race, and get extra skills, but have restrictions, and have racial abilities.

Eventually you will be able to pick human to race(for a limited time), just right now races aren't done yet since we had to redo all of them.

Nah account creation is in the hands of Broadband - his two free weekends where he was going to finish off the account creation and housing ingame were taken away because he got snowed on by work.

Very frustrating waiting - i know cause i've been there lol. But it is worth it
