Is there any chance of character wiping?
No. Obsidian has been up for more than 3 years and there's never been a character wipe. Obsidian specializes in offering a stable, bugfree UO environnement


Is there a fast way to travel around the world?
You can use the runestone chamber to reach almost every area of the world. To get to the runestone chamber, type .help and pick the bottom option, 'summon a runestone'. 50 gold will be automatically deduced from your bank money. After a minute, double click the runestone to teleport to the runestone chamber


What is the stat cap?
You may have a total of 295 stats. You may not exceed 200 points in a single stat


What is the skill cap?
Humans have a skill cap of 680. That is balanced by their ability to train any skill up to GM and to equip any armor/weapon


All races have a skill cap of 780. They have restrictions on the weapons and armors they can wear depending on their class

Are there newbie dungeons?
Cove is a newbie town. Behind cove lies an orc camp where PvP is restricted. You can also hunt in britain's graveyard without fear of getting PKed.


What is the race system?
Every new character has to pick a race. Every race (except humans) has special features they can access through their racial stone (newbified item in your backpack). Humans counterbalance their lack of racial abilities by having no restrictions on items or skills, meaning they can train any skill up to GM and equip armors as a mage. Unfortunately, most race stones are disabled at the moment for the sake of bug fixing.

No...Choose wisely

Do veterans get special items?
No.

What's Obsidian's policy on macroing?
You may not macro unattended. However, attending macroing is allowed. Note that you may not use 3rd party programs, so you can't be watching TV and give a look at your comp screen every 5 minutes. Client-built macros are of course allowed.

What's Obsidian's policy on 3rd party programs?
You may not use any 3rd party programs while playing on the Obsidian shard (including UOassist).

What's the shard's policy on roleplaying?
Roleplaying is encouraged, not enforced. However, character names have to be somewhat 'roleplay acceptable'. Kewl d00d and 1337 h@ckz characters will get their names changed. Additionally, your name musn't reveal your occupation : Steven the miner, Josh the tailor, Amanda the mage aren't acceptable names

How long do I have to wait before I can delete my character?
You must wait a full week (ya, 168 hours) before you can delete your character

Can I change my character name?
Yes. You may page a GM asking to change your name for a fee of 20k. However, your request might be denied if you change names too often.

I'm a frost elf warrior and can't equip my platemail armors. Why?
You need to have a minimum 60 strength to equip some of the platemail pieces (chest and legs) while others require 40 (helmet, arms and gauntlets)

I have 82% skill in musicianship and want to lower that score due to the skill cap. How can I?
You can't use the arrows in the skill window to lower your skill. However, you may eat forgetful fish (they are small and purple) which fishermen can fish out of the sea (once they have at least 80% skill in fishing).

Are there any restrictions regarding housing?
You may not place a house 2 within 2 tiles of a road. You may not block dungeon entrances or access to any area. Every account is limited to 5 houses (note that each physical person is limited to one account)

What's the shard policy on rez-killing?
Rez-killing is the repeated action of killing somebody just to have fun doing it.
If somebody you killed (let's call that person Jack) comes back after you killed him and attacks you, it is not considered illegal to kill Jack again.
If Jack resurrects and tries to loot his body in order to prevent you from obtaining items from his corpse, it is not considered illegal to kill Jack again.
If Jack calls you names after dying to you, it is not considered illegal to kill Jack again.
However, if Jack walks up to you after resurrecting asking you why you killed him, it is considered illegal to kill him again. Provided you dont want to answer and transmitted that information to Jack, and he still bugs you, it is not considered illegal to kill Jack again as a warning. If he comes back again, bugging you, consider paging a GM for harassement.

Know that staff and staff only is the final judge on what is a rez-kill and what is not. This is only a guideline and is used as a reference to staff, and a line to follow by players. Judging rez-kills is hard, and no complaining, bitching or whining on staff judgements will be tolerated

Ultima Online keeps crashing for no apparent reason. Why?
Various reasons could explain this.
1- Maybe you looked into chests in your house, opened a lot of windows (5 chests, 4 bags, 3 backpacks, etc.) and then moved out of their reach, resulting in closing all windows at once. This is a frequent reason for crashes
2- Some programs running in the background are extremely UO-crashable. I have in mind the ICQ program which kills my UO every 3 minutes

First question. Decorations such as paintings, beds, chairs, tables, etc., can only be bought off player carpenters. Find one and ask for prices, they all vary.

Second question. You can only lock items inside your house or near the outside of your house. The way to do this is to make a master key and simply click on the item to lock it and click again to unlock.

Third question. So long as the door is closed noone will beable to get inside.

My loginacount has been blocked

I've had the same problem. And I've been hearing that actually a lot of people have that problem
More than likely it's just an error.

All I did was keep trying to get in, and I got in within a few tries.
Keep trying to get in, it should go away.

I had the same problem and an additional message popped up at the bottom left (where game text scrolls during the game) that said the server is full. I checked and there were somewhere around 100 people logged on at the time. Anyway, I kept trying and eventually got in.

After you wait this week who do you do so, and will you be able to create a new character at the next startup or is there another waiting period. Thanks

you have to delete your character, you can do that only 7 days after creating that character

I just signed up for Obsidian the other day, downloaded he stuff, and tried to log on. unfortunately, my screen name "lestatdelioncourt" is too long and on the program is shortened to "lestatdelioncour" and will not accept my password. i've tried changing my in-chat name and everything. what should i do? its making me ANGRY!
