This is a tweak that you will usually find out about on your own, but still, some may not find it right away.

1: Start > Right Click on My Computer and select properties.
2: Click on the "Advanced" tab
3: See the "Perfomance" section ? Click "Settings"
4: Disable the following:

Fade or slide menus into view
Fade or slide ToolTips into view
Fade out menu items after clicking
Show Shadows under menus
Slide open combo boxes
Slide taskbar buttons
Use a background image for each folder type
Use common tasks in folders

Windows will still look nice and perform faster.

The revamped version of 98 owned. Did anyone ever have Windows ME? I thought that was the worst by far.

98 finally ended up decent and definately owns 95 which is a joke but xp is still far far better. its way more stable. if not, youre doing something very wrong. and think about this, win 98 cant handle the amount of memory these newer pcs have, it wont utilize more than what?, like 256 anyways? it has really limited memory management which is why linux owned its ass so bad.

lack of true multi user feature, definately was in top 5 reasons why linux owns windows 98.

back on memory again for a sec, i am pretty sure i remember maximum pc doing a test and win 98 and winme both actually slow down when you add over 196mb ram. of course you can change the Vcache setting and shit but how many of you noobs gonna do that? , and even if you do you can also hurt performance even more if you dont set it correctly. in fact, as far as non gaming machines go, win 2000 totally rapes 98 to hell and back. and well how ya gonna game in 2005 with your os only handling 196 mb ram effeciently? errrrm. by upgrading to xp?

just cause you can get higher framerates on old games doesnt make 98 better. lol. i get more fps on a voodoo 5 in its generation of games than i do on a gf4 lmao. so see its not just older operating systems that often work better with programs that were written with their specific system in mind older hardware has been known to as well. btw my old game machine with v5 5500 celeron 500 mhz pwns you lol.

also 98 is fat 32 only, a lot of people compare a ntfs install of xp to 98 not realizing it. xp can be either. fat 32 is known to be the better gaming partition. imo it really doesnt make a shit but ntfs seems more stable overall and ill sacrifice that for gaming speed personally.

theres absolutely only one reason to run windows 98, if you have an old pc. if the pc is too ghay to handle xp, then yeah 98 is gonna pwn it then. other than that, youd be a fool to use 98 over xp.

you can prolly search all over the net and hear ms haters saying how 98 owns xp, but theyre morons. most of them probably never suffered through the 5 million different versions 98 went through before it got halfassed stable.

all this is off the top of my head, so sorry if i was off base on details, noobs.
