Tailoring

Skill details:

  • Of all the professions in this fair land, tailoring is, next to mining, the most profitable profession by far because if you are good at tracking sheep you can get a lot of whool really quickly and make a lot of product.
  • You need STR to be able to carry the materials that are necessary to make things, this is especially important for leather crafting because hides are so heavy.
  • The sewing kit is the main tool of the tailor; it will run out of thread eventually. You can buy extra kits or make them with the tinkering skill for only a few ingots.
  • Lambs do grow coats and become Sheep while they are stabled, so if you aren't a tamer yourself buying a few sheep from a tamer and keeping them stabled means a regular flow of whool.
  • Once you reach 90.1 tailoring you can make special dyes that cannot be made any other way

Skill usage:

These are the supplies or "tools of the trade" for a tailor.
They include scissors, sewing kit, piles of whool, spools of thread,
balls of yarn, bolts of cloth, and folded cloth.

Tools of the Trade

Here is something you'll also want, dyes and dye buckets. I have several because I want consistant colors. The other reason to do this is because dye tubs will never run out but the dye kit will run out after a while. They weigh a lot so I keep them in the bank. You also want to have a single bucket that you NEVER dye. This bucket will reset bags and clothing back to their default state of brown and white. Speaking of bags, yes you CAN dye bags as illustrated.
Dye Tubs and Dyes

In every tailoring shop you will find 2 things, a spinning wheel and an upright loom. Sometimes you will also find a pair of scissors on the counter that you can use.Scissors are only used for making bandages, see veterinary for more info.

To make a bolt of cloth you need to use 5 spools of thread or 5 balls of yarn on the loom. Do so by double clicking on spools of thread and targeting the loom. Repeat 4 times until the bolt is made and is put in your pack.
Using a ball of yarn

You can buy thread and yarn off of a vendor by why? It's much easier to shear sheep by using a knife or bladed weapon on a living sheep. Let me say that again... LIVING!!!!! Do not kill the sheep you will get 0 whool from a dead sheep. When shear a LIVING sheep, you will get a pile of whool and the sheep's coat will be sheared... The sheep will be now called a lamb. Even if the animal is tamed, the name change will occur if the name is simple sheep/lamb. If the animal has a custom name and the name change will not occur. When it has a full coat again it will be called a sheep.
Sheep becomes a Lamb

When you use a pile of whool on a spinning wheel, you will get 3 balls of yarn which like stated above you can use to make bolts of cloth on the loom.
Using a pile of whool

Use a sewing kit on folded cloth or a bolt of cloth to start tailoring. Keep cloth in bolt form because a bolt weighs 5 stones but the same amount of cloth as folded cloth it weighs 50 stones. As soon as you use a sewing kit on a bolt of cloth, it turns into folded cloth. Be sure not to use a sewing kit on several bolts or they will ALL turn into folded cloth which is a really bad idea.
Tailoring cloth

Lastly, leatherworking. To make leather products you must kill a goat, cow, bull, hind, or hart and use a knife or bladed weapon on it's body to carve away meat and hides. Different animals produce more or less hides (ex. Goat=6, Cow=8, Bull=12)
Hides from a dead cow

Since hides are really heavy, I recommend you do your leather working in the field. If you use a sewing kit on hides you can make leather armour, studded leather, female leather and studded leather, boots, bags, belt pouches, and backpacks.
Tailoring hides

If you don't want to do your leather working in the field, you can also apparently cut hides with your scissors to make cut up leather. It takes the same amount of cut leather as hides to make an item. The main different between the two is that hides are 5 stones each and cut leather is 1 stone each.

Skill breakdown:

Note I know most of these numbers are wrong. Especially the leather skill numbers. Just use them as a general guide until I get correct numbers from Broadband.
