Hi guys,

Was having a little play today to see what the new server is like, quite like it, everything was fine hunting away, then a message pops up in the screen saying

"The nexus has weakened and now access to buccs den is open" - or something like that, from there, extreme lag, i would do one step, wait 2 seconds, 1 step, sometimes freezing for up to 20 seconds.

Any reason? or can I change something to get it going again? quite simply unplayable, timed it took me 19 minutes to get from one vesper bridge to the other. :(

I thought this was just me but maybe not?

I had a coincidental hardware problem a few weeks back and on my first attempt at playing after resolving that I was lag-free when I logged in, although a day or two later the lag returned for me. I don't experience such problems with my connections in general.

I do keep attempting to play but I take 2 to 3 steps then get a lag spike. I did also have a very laggy period similar to Barney's in Vesper when attempting to cross the bridge to the North to go to the Provisioners, which prompted a quick logging out unfortunately :(

Damn may be it is just me then! It's mostly a constant issue for me now tbh.

Maybe Barney or someone else could comment on how it is for them?

Yes, I have experienced the lag as well. The heavy lag happens randomly and only about twice. The 2-3 step "hiccup" lag is a constant. It's like the program is trying to load the graphics/mul/verdata stuff.

Lag only happens to me when im running full speed in one direction.

Lets say im running north, at the top right of my game screen i'll see blackness then it will load then ill run a little bit farther than it will do it again, non stop. So really chasing something through the woods is impossible since I lag every 5 seconds.

Mine was the opposite.

Running down I got the black spots, but running up was just fine.

This is still causing me problems. I can't understand what would be causing the problem. My connctions to other things (mostly games, including other UO shards...just testing, I'm not off anywhere else!) are fine.

I did actually have a spell earlier today of about an hour, where I was more or less lag free (got some fishing done :) ) but then it returned :( Even now I take two to three steps and I get hit by a lag spike.

I've tried a fresh install which hasn't help either, and I don't think it is traffic on the shard as it happens when I'm online alone or just one or two other players.

The black stuff is just the server and your client disgareeing on where you are.

Basically your client says "I want to run over here"
then the server looks at that, and decides whether it lets you, if it does it sends you a message that says "Ok, you are now here".

Your client can send several moves before the server responds, but there is an eventual limit before it'll stop and just wait for replies.
This is what you notice whenever you are running then stop moving for a little, it's because you've reached the maximum number of "i want to run" without "ok you can run".
Whenever the server sends the OK, the client also loads new terrain, so if you run too far, the client doesn't have the terrain loaded and so you see black.

As for the lag, i'm looking into it but no promises as connection issues are hard to solve from my end and I don't know when broadband will be available next.

i dunno if this will increase lag. or w.e but is it possible the area loaded can be bigger soo we don't see that black stuff?
b/c I do know what everyones talking about it happened b4 to me.. seems like if the area was bigger by a little it wouldn't get that... b/c its never really more then the corner of the screan
