Has anyone heard about this new software currently in beta called google wave? I don't know the exact details yet (hopefully some of you guys can help fill me in, and I'll look more into it when I get home from work), but apparently this software either links, mirrors, or replaces forums, in game servers, IRC, and other things all on one easy to use (and linked?) software platform. If this software works like I think it does (which means not actually sending any code to Google), it can make the first bittorrent rush of players that obsidian had all those years ago (100 players online at one time...anyone remember?) seam very small. I think this is something that can catapult obsidian T4A into the next era. It's still in beta, but if the time other google products spent in beta is used as a refrence (chrome, igoogle) this will most likely go live in about 8 months....hopefully about the same time Obsidian will be loosing it's Beta tag. Bob, any thoughts on this? |

It's a platform....that links to obsidian...so masses of people can use one program, and obsidian is a gateway from within the program. Along side the gateway are mirrors of obsidian forums, (if we still had it) IRC, and and various IM programs. From what I understand, it will be kind of like facebook, but rather then going to a website, it will be a program with integrated AIM, ICQ, Mirc, and MSN....and rather then having small facebook apps, it will link to full blown games and applications. My thinking is that if obsidian can get in on this program from the ground floor, then we could have exposure similar to some of the popular games on facebook. This is the general idea I got of what the program will be, but I'm not 100% sure...I'll have to look into it more later. |

it would not take the load off the server, it would just be a way for lots of people to know about Obsidian....and hopefully the que is no longer needed...I know other sphere shards have had over 100 people at a time on them, but it might be a BB thing. |

the wait times were because when we were hitting 100 people BB set a limit so it wouldnt slow down the server for everyone... so depending on how high he will set the limit there maybe more wait times if this happens... and everyone remembers how fun those were |

i <3 wait times and flame.. must u use the word hella in every convo? damn.,. u didnt even use it right.... but ya, soooo basically the google wave runner or w,e would basically act like an obsidian server... and we connect to that instead of w.e eliminating connection probs and other hardware / real world problems... |

After looking into it more, I don't think the program works like I thought, so I doubt it will work with obsidian. |

It's open source, so it would be possible to launch Obsidian from Wave. I don't think an option like that will be native, and it would not work the way I originally thought. It's basically Googles answer to facebook with a ton more flexibility. |
