If you REALLY want to subject yourself to the original UO MIDI files.

I like this guys stuff... he basically took the old Roland souncard versions of the midis (which had much better music in the late 80's/early 90's than say... through a SoundBlaster soundcard) and he's converted them into downloadable mp3s.

I'm going to ask Broadband if it is possible to play them back through the client as MP3 files instead of MIDI.

If that is the case, then I will remix them all properly using Orchestral synthesisers and then master them.

Would sound awesome :D

I don't think UO supported MP3s until AOS. I'm not sure what client version we use, but the files that the programmers uses to patch the embedded game maps stop at T2A. This might be intentional to keep the client size down, but it's very likely that we don't have full AOS capability.

edit: we do have MP3 capability. In fact, all the music files are already in MP3 format. C:/games/music they're all right there. I suppose you could rename any MP3 file you wanted to be the same as whats on the list. You could have Metalica automatically start playing when you win a fight, Ozzy start up when you die, or NWA when the guards are called on you....

So all those songs are actually going to work at some point?

All I get is the same stupid loops never any cool music like these files...

Well, the game will only play what the client tells it to play. Our client is probably set to only play a few songs. Only people who could change that would be BB and maybe Bob.....if it can be done at all. Client versions are usually set...meaning that if you want different options, then you use a different client version for your shard. The problem is that we can't just go and use any client because the Obsidian .ini checks for the correct version (which is unique to obsidian), and obsidian encryption is custom, and probably not easy to duplicate in your own client.

Just use windows media player.

actually every music file on the client except the last 10-20 or so play at some point int he game.

However the trick we used to play them is kinda outdated, and once we get all the major stuff done one of the things i'd like to do is update teh system so it's more universal.

Currently we use entrance and exit points, that if you walk over, change your music.
Eventually i'll upgrade it to include recalling into/out of an area, and other stuff so it works all the time.

This is way low on the list since it's a cosmetic change and we still have functional changes to fix.

Settled then... they're in MP3, so I can do what I intended, but I'll need to get the original MIDI's to start work.

I'll also have to get BB's permission to release a "Music Patch"

You'd basically just unzip the file into the directory presume and hey presto - UO music for 2008.

I could even do Drum and Bass version (joke lol)
