you can try and tame a creature without a taming stone by using the button on the skills list. I dont think the min skill for taming animals is set either cos i tried to tame a black bear on a char with 2.6 taming |

I don't use a taming stone for my tamer, always used the button on the skill list. But 2.6 for a bear? Did you get any gains? |

Yeah, awhile ago we made the taming stone obsolete and you could use it from skill menu. However taming needed a few updates so it wasn't in the basic patch, however once i can upload files the new taming should work from the skill menu. until then go tame a stang at .1 skill, and tell me how long it takes. |

i attempted to tame a stang with 2.6 taming, it allowed me but didnt take the time to complete. wasnt the taming stone put in because the old skill gem didnt work? otherwise why would one need/want the taming stone? since it just tames. |

I am VERY curious about this thread since I want to do some further work on my Tamer. So, can you make any skill gains while attempting to tame something totally out of your league? I can see the appeal from a game designer standpoint of making people work their way up from animals that they should know or almost know. But I can also see it being realistic that "Joe Tamer" might just love, oh, I don't know, Dragons or something and just might spend his life attempting to tame one even though he will probably be killed early on in the process. I guess the bottom line is that the current skill guides are going to be totally obsolete. Hmmm, maybe it's time for Obs to set up one of those new fangled "Wiki" things... |

I have no idea about the music skills but in a strange way I really miss hearing the "twang-ta-ta-ta-twaaang...trrwaaang" of those budding bards. Does anyone know if it ever worked effectively or even what a GM bard sounded like on an official Origin server? I always wondered if a kick ass bard could turn the tide of battle or even stand on their own in UO... Anyhoo...yes, I am very excited about learning what changes have happened with Taming and also how an updated skill guide(s) would definitely be more than just a minor benefit for the shard as a whole. The wiki-style approach aside, I think a re-do of the current guides are more than in order. They are, in fact, practically useless now. But who out there is both experienced enough with Obs yet still able to spare the time to do such a task? I don't know. I wish it were me, and I probably could do it from the technical/time available side, but I have no idea where to start with the actual laying down of "the law of obs". That's why I suggested the wiki. However, other than knowing that both the software and technology exist and truly believing that it is genuinely the best approach, I don't know what else to say. Ok. "Post getting to long" alert going off in my head, so... How about that Taming info? |

Since this seems to be a ripe time to make changes, how about this: Allow people to attempt to train an animal that they have no possibility of training but only within a set range limit. For example: If animal "X" requires, say, a level of 70 in Taming, then perhaps allow a Tamer to attempt to train it at, oh, level 50. They shouldn't be able to tame the animal at all but they should at least be able to learn something from the experience and still be able to gain. This same principle might also be applied to several other skills. However, maybe a simple test on just one skill might be in order. |

Today i tried to tame a grizly, but where ever i started to tame it i would get a message at once: "you give up on taming this creature". Just before this i tamed a horse with no problem, my tamer is gm by the way. |
