I mean this in the best possible way. The problem is that, the bands talent is better than the quality of their material. Tight guitar, tight but simplistic drums, great vocals... but no hooks, not catchy at all. If I knew them, I'd seriously be telling them to work on some memorable tunes before releasing a CD. Either that or get a decent producer to coordinate the sound. The 'sound' is good, but that doesn't make it well-produced - its well engineered - if a little thin. It seriously needs a good mastering job on it. All I'm saying is, if the quality of the first three tracks I listened to is anything to go by, theres simply nothing to make them stand out. I'd advise them to go back to the drawing board to work on some really strong riffs / melodies to showcase the talent they have... and also get the drummer to try and sound less 'generic', there's no soul. With the right material, they could go really far. His vocals are great, and made me think of Chris Cornell crossed with a little more 70's-80's metal. The best way I can put it is to look at Creed. Tight band, but an outstanding guitarist, and an amazing vocalist, combined with catchy riffs and harmonies. The sad reality is that to go far and attract a larger audience they are gonna need something a bit more radio friendly... Thats not being a sellout, its being a realist. |
