Build slow. Go cheep to get the basics. You don’t need top of the line stuff to play the best games, especially now days. Get a motherboard that can handle a lot of upgrades, and buy better stuff as you need to. It will save you a ton of money in the long run (possibly many thousands of dollars over the course of a few years), and you will still be able to play everything without any noticeable performance loss. I currently have an AGP ATI 850 pro card that works outstanding, 1 Gig of DDR 333 ram, an AMD 64 3000 processor, 2 hard drives (both IDE for the time) and a Thermaltake case with all the bells and whistles. I have room to upgrade EVERYTHING in my computer without ever spending more then 100 dollars for a substantial performance increase. I don't upgrade because I don’t need to, but if I do need to (and about every 6 months I add something new and better), it will be incredibly simple and cheep. I basically go a little at a time until my motherboard is maxed out, then I buy a new motherboard and start again. It takes a few years to max out a decent motherboard, and in the meantime, you’ll still have money to have fun away from your computer. |

I'll suggest you a build when I get home buddy. Do *not* build a system yet, seriously. If you want performance you will want Conroe (even the cheapest model demolishes most of AMD's lineup) and if you want price (more likely) AMD are going to be cutting alot of prices in response to the above! If I were you I'd wait just a few weeks and see how the market is doing. Its a bad time to build a system right this second! |

don't forget to check outpost.com for weekly specials usually have some really good deals on RAM and MOBO/CPU combos. And that power supply is too expensive. I've seen ThermalTake and RaidMax selling 500watt to 640watt PS for $80 - $100. If he's gonna go X1900XTX it's nice to have that extra power if it ever gets reasonable to Crossfire. |
