I'd recommend fishing over smithing, cause although, smithing is abit more fun (imo, they're both boring tho) it seems there's a better market for fish than there is for armor, just due to the lower player base thing, and people rarely losing their armors to pks.. (cause I'm the only one :( and I rarely loot, plus most people know to avoid me :( :( :( )

Are you using a weapon? If not, go buy a viking sword, or a katana or something, then go bash on them.

And maybe do like Azimuth said, go outside cove, beat up some animals, cut them up, sell their stuff to npcs.

If I still had acess to Cove I'd gladly come help you out, but sadly, I don't. If you're around Vesper bank and you see me (named Emo or Tyrael Keisen) ask for help!

There are a few ways to heal.

Bandages, potions, magic, and healing weapons are what you have to work with. You probably don't have any healing weapons yet, and even if you did, you would not be able to recharge them yet (you'll learn more about that as time goes on). Anyway, for healing….get your anatomy up to about 59 (whatever you do, DON'T go above 60 anatomy yet, poison will kill you because you have no way to cure it yourself yet. If you get poisoned and your anatomy is below 60, you can heal through the poison). With anatomy at about 59 you'll be able to heal for a bit more and your weapon will do a little more damage per swing. You can buy magic up to about 25, and I would recommend doing this as a temporary life safer until you get your healing and str up a bit. You can cure poison and heal using magic when you get in a tight spot.

Some helpful hints for a warrior:
-Use a shield all the time. GM Perry is great!
-Leave room for archery when you’re planning your sills, you will most likely use it sooner or later on a warrior.
-You can't wear plate armor until you have 60 str, so work on getting str up ASAP
-Use healing potions only as a last resort. Like when you fail a heal, or your mana is low (if you decide to use magic)

A few final words.....
This shard is hard for a newbie. Money is not easy to make, and it seams that everything and everyone can kill you. Rest assured, it gets much easier, and more fun as your character progresses, so hang in there, and we will try and help out all we can.

rabbid - being 'less removed' from my noobie time than these others, lemme tell you what I did:

Firstly you need to protect yourself! If you're making a warrior, then choose a weapon skill (not fencing, either swords or macing - swords being easier to raise) - and get a weapon. If you don't have any armour, then you'll need to buy some - the blacksmith shop will do, get legs, chest, gorget, helmet, arms, and hands! If new, you probably can't wear plate, so chain is the next best!

If you cannot afford this, then come to Vesper bank and look for the abovementioned players, or even Mannanan will be able to give you a nice set of armour!

Having obtained armour, you need healing skill and bandages! Lots of bandages - but since they can cost money, that can be difficult, buy as many as possible at the healer and then head to the graveyard!

Having secured armour and a weapon, I fought in the graveyard to raise my skills, the zombies are easier, and when they die you can double click your sword, and then click their corpse to carve them up (they provide 5 bandages each - VERY handy!)

make sure you take all the money you can off the corpse!

If it gets boring, or if you make friends in the graveyard, procede to the "Newbie Dungeon" portal - there are some harder monsters, but they also provide more loot!

Once your weapon skill starts to rise into the 50's you might even be ready to trash some orcies - they are through the mining tunnel - I would recommend luring them away and fighting them 1 on 1 at first! Again, they give slightly better loot, and you can use your scissors (buy if you don't have) on their boots to give you a few bandages too!

Like Azi said, it's a hard shard, but it's fun! I managed to start a noobie and survive without any real help!

Once you get towards the end of your first month, you'll need to start thinking about buying a house - this is the hard part, and someone helped me in that regard! (I saved up enough to pay them back) - but after a month you should have enough gold to buy a little house somewhere!

Meat goes to the butcher, hides go to the tanner. Here is a good idea, buy some scissors from the tanner and cut your hides. By cutting them, their weight is reduced, so you can hunt longer. To sell specifically to someone, either say their name or like "butcher sell", "tanner sell", "tailor sell". You can also buy things like that except change the word sell to buy.

has anyone told him > Train on the training dummies some before you go off fighting zombie hordes.. youll need the easy str and dex you can get very quickly with training dummies. You strike them alot faster than your dexterity will allow you to strike actuall enemies right now.

So go buy a mace from the shop by the dummies and hit the dummies for a while... or whatever wep you want your character to use.

once you hit your mace training limit on the dummies you can go to the armor shop and say "vendor train" hell tell you what skills he can train you in. and how much gold you must then drag onto him from your pack.
This works for all npc vendors, and guards can train your archery.

Open your skills and use stealth to quickly increase your dex.

Make sure you train Anatomy if you are a warrior and Evaluating intelliegence if you are a Mage! These will increase your damage delt!

These are also located in your skills display.
The skills with blue buttons beside them are trained by clicking the button and others are real time skills you earn while fighting or fishing, mining, or lumberjacking. ect...

Just a quick note on those 2 parts. Stealth DOES increase dex fairly quickly, but as a noob, it's also a bitch to aquire the FFF to forget stealth, unless they meet some nice fisherman.

And as for Anatomy, I'd suggest they dont raise it too high until they are pretty high in healing, as with lower anat, you use less bandies to heal, and you wont try to cure poison. Higher anat is good once you've got around 80-85 healing.

Post subject:  macros

now azimuth explained the anatomy one, but i forgot how to set it up. i have it configed so that i press a key (assigned) and then i get a cursor and i have to click on something....is that rite? also, a question on the stealth one, cuz i really need to up my dex, everytime i use it it just says "you can't hide here" am i doing that rite? any other macro suggestions would be appreciated. i'm kinda the guinea pig for a few friends i know too, imma make everyone play. is there anyway to stop the game from unequipping my char? damn that's annoying, anyways, thanks

Ok here goes:

For raising anatomy make a macro for Useskill: Anatomy and then below it put TargetSelf. Here's what it should look like:

Image

In regards to stealth make a macro that simply uses the Stealth skill: UseSkill: Stealth. Also try to keep away from lighted areas like lanterns and holding candles/lanterns/torches they provide too much light for you to meld into the shadows.

And the auto unequip is a feature of the game to try and prevent people macroing afk(away from keyboard).

When you're low stealth, you fail a lot. When you fail at stealthing it says "You fail to hide here" or something along those lines.

How's that armor goin that I gave to ya rabbid?
