f****** seriously....
I can't believe this is turning into an argument between you two. Need a table spoon of salt peter to numb down your raging e-penises? FFS...
I will say that yeah, anyone who's anyone trained up their stats with the help of alcohol purchased from vendors. I know I did and I KNOW you did too. Its just an Obsidian thing. But face it... Things are changing and changing in a way that makes it even harder to train up your char's than ever before. I know I've heard some people say: "Hey, well if you want to GM your skills, you have to earn it!!."
That's fine and dandy but look at the big picture: Most of us just want to play. Be it pvp, events etc... training is not fun. Especially when its so difficult. A lot of us have jobs that come before play time and I for one don't like spending my free time grinding away on skills when I get little to no rewards for it. That isn't fun and games are supposed to be fun.. right?
I used to dedicate my life to this shard for a long while. I started playing here out of shear luck, but I was hooked from the get-go. It was f****** rad to be able to log into a game, learn the tricks of the trade and train up to seek revenge against all the people that pk'd, dry looted and talked smack (mostly in French) A very satisfying feeling. Fun. Just like a game should be.
Now it seems like everything I loved about this shard is being stripped for more ways to make it harder to have fun. My example for right now will be Magery. How long is it going to take to gm that skill from 80.0 when the only chance I have to gain is by casting a high mana spell.... I've wasted too much of my free time spamming Flamestrike for a 0.1 gain. That's not fun. Maybe if I didn't have to go to work/bed I would have received another 0.1 gain. Who knows.... if I had the time, maybe I would.
I'm sorry if this is coming across very negatively. I'm just a dedicated player from a near dead player base speaking my mind. It really bothers me that we finally had the invul bug, an exploit that was never tended to for close to two years or so fixed, along with a balancing system that made warriors useful against mages in a pvp bout stripped away just like that. I'm sure the higher ups doing all the dirty work know that it was the system that made everyone happy. Look back or try to remember all the players that were on at that time having fun. I have load of great screenshots from that time to prove it. What happened to that?
I really hope that Obsidian sticks around and builds up a faithful player base. I'd love to see that, I know you would too. But think about the people that can't quit their day jobs to stick around the house for days, weeks or even years working on building up one char to the way they want it. Why do that when they could easily go to another shard and do it quicker and have fun. I'm not saying "make skills gm-able in one day." Just make it easier than it is right now.
I understand that everything is at debate right now with the shard being in a beta stage.... but do you think new players are going to want to stick around training forever when they could go to a top 100 list of UO shards and find one where they could start having fun right off the bat? Depressing.
I'll prolly get banned, flamed, reemed, and slapped with a monkey pole for this long drawn out drunken rant.... but I'm entitled to my own opinion.... I hope.

Perhaps living under the sea for so long has dulled your intelligence... I am afraid you are in the group of have-nots when it comes to common sense.
I look forward to proving you otherwise in the future.
But anyway, like Thassius has said... it may just go back to the way it used to be. A LOT of things are going back to the way they used to be, this has been said by GM Bob a few times I believe.
I have seen you post good ideas here in the past. Why don't you stick to suggesting improvements to the shard in the meantime while it is being developed, instead of carrying on about this issue. Your opinion has been voiced, and others have voiced theirs. If you do not agree with our opinion then just wait to see how Broadband takes this all into consideration. Trying to force us all to see it your way and trying to convince us your way is the only way will not get you anywhere.
502Dude, again you just have to be patient. This site is still here. Server is still online. Nothing has been "abandoned"... which isn't a word you used but is the general sentiment from a lot of the dissenters here. I know it's extremely frustrating dealing with this transition period but in-game staff and I all agree that it is for a greater cause.

I never used alchohol to train any of my chars it just seemed more of a pain in the ass then what it was worth honestly. The only thing like that i ever did was cast on myself wearing iron plate for int gains that worked pretty well.

This thread was about using alcohol for training.
The staff stance is that using alcohol to accelerate training is not something that is factored into the "balance" we assign to training, but we will discuss it at GM level.
For the record, all feedback is welcomed but open arguments with a GM over something which is essentially so MUNDANE are not something that is necessary and will be dealt with in future. There are much more important things to focus on right now.
Any other burning points of feedback can you please send to me in PM, or create a new thread if it is a new issue.
Locking the topic now, all comments have been noted.
