I don't go cheep on the motherboard, or there's a chance that I'll be buying a new one in less then a year. The better motherboards from good companies release bios updates that (in some cases) extends the life of your motherboard by allowing updates to faster processors or more ram. A good motherboard will also come with a lot of extras on it...extras that you might not need now, but could save you in the long run. For example: My old motherboard was an A7m266 from Asus. When I got it, the fastest processor I could put on that motherboard was an AMD Athalon 1800. A few years after I bought it, I decided I was going to upgrade, but I took a look to see what bios upgrades were available. One of the newest flashes was an update to bios Version 1007, which expanded the max processor to an Athalon 2700. Rather then shelling out 200 bucks for a new motherboard, I was able to just flash my bios and buy a new 2700 processor for 50 bucks. It lasted me an additional 2 years with no problems. |

I like a lot of MSI's stuff. I have a K7N2 Delta-L mobo I bought a few years back that hasn't had any problems. Just search around for deals, but don't skimp on things like power supplies and motherboards. Trust us, you'll be glad you didn't. |

The 'expensive' power supply I mentioned is actually an Antec case which includes a PSU |

Ya its better to wait a lil bit I built a new pc a few months back and put a amd 4200+ in it when I built it and how the price of it is half of what I paid I think it was 352$USD when I bought it and now its 160 or so. I spent 2200$ building mine but I got basicly all the top of the line stuff that was out at the time. Direct x 10 is comeing out along with windows vista. If you are a hardcore gamer I would wait to see what new budget videocards are going to come out that support dx 10. My current set up though is amd 4200+ dual core. Asus a8n-e ultra motherboard. 2 gigs corsair xms ram. 350gig seagate barracuda 7200.9 3 gig transfer rate 16 meg buffer. Geforce 7900gt SLI and a few other mods like 2 thermalake 120mm fans and a blue orb 2 for my cpu to help it run cooler. Zalmond coolers for my 2 video cards. 22inch dell referbed flat screen monitor. logitech g5 mouse and logitech keyboard gameing mouse pad. 450watt logitech thx certified sound system. 2200$ complete system includeing a raidmax case with a 450watt psu. But if you have a decent monitor and stuff you can build a really nice budget pc for the amount you want to spend just pick and choose wisely and like they said I would wait 2weeks or so maybe even a month. Things are going to drop alot and if you buy a videocard and arent to picky about the brand. I have always bought geforce but AMD bougth out ATI a few weeks ago and dropped all the prices on the cards to half price also. |
