For anyone interested in playing the games that came before Ultima Online and the Obsidian version of it, they are available on www.gog.com at a relatively low price. None are multiplayer and most are very very very old. The first couple are even limited to 8 colours on dos (pre any sort of windows).
A little lore and story to go with a game that we've all come back to for the past 20 years.

I will note that I am NOT getting anything out of advertising a service that sells games.

How many staff does it take to screw in a light bulb?

One to script it.
One to debug it.
One to place it.
One to take the player pages bitching about it.
One to tell the others that they got it all wrong.

Hell yeah man. I did Ultima VII all the way thru last year with the Exult mod. Ultima V was the first real computer game I played aside from Apple II and C64 games back then. Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior) had just come out in the USA but man was my mind blown away the first time I saw Ultima V. Ironically, Ultima III Exodus has just come out for NES and my older friend with computer traded me time haha.

Ultima VI was awesome. Ultima Underworld. If the internet ever goes away for a few days.. I hope you have these classic handy.

I’ve still got the map to Ultima: Martian Dreams taped to the wall by my PC and cloth maps in the closet :)
