Sierra Entertainment today announced that the multiplayer component from the award winning PC title F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon), has been renamed F.E.A.R. Combat, and will be made available to the public as a free download on Thursday August 17th, 2006.

I know there’s a Linux port for running a dedicated server, unsure of client. I never wanted to mess with FEAR because of the flak it caught in the Doom 3 community, but nonetheless a free multiplayer version is interesting…

I’d like to add as well, these people on forums talking about how the makers of Prey need to release Prey MP for free (as it just came out last month) because of few populated servers need to shut up.
